Penarth Borrows

What is Penarth Borrows?

Benthyg Penarth is your local Library of Things, with over 200 items that you can borrow at really low cost. Membership is free, and for a limited period this January we are offering local people free borrowing, as part of our 'Penarth Borrows' project.

We're looking for local people to sign up to 'Penarth Borrows'. Help us shine a spotlight on borrowing by using our items for a three week period, from Saturday January 15th - Saturday February 5th 2022. Then tell everyone about it...

We'd like to create a post and a blog, or make a video, of what it was like to borrow from Benthyg Penarth, to share with others on our website and on social media. We'll support you every step of the way with sharing your story, we'll be on hand if social media or writing isn't your thing.

Plus, you can join our group on Nextdoor too, if that's your thing.

Borrowing is a simple way to save money and an effective action people can take to create more sustainable lifestyles which focus on living more locally. If you're thinking of actions you can take to be more 'green' this New Year, or ways to save the pennies borrowing is a great start. Plus, your story could inspire others to borrow too. You'll be joining a growing community of borrowers in Penarth, doing a great thing for your pocket, and the planet too!

Other benefits of borrowing include:

  • Saving money by borrowing, rather than buying
  • Getting access to useful stuff without spending loads of money
  • Borrowing is easy, especially if you have your item delivered to your door by our fab e-cargo bike, then collected once you're done
  • Many of us think about decluttering at this time of year, borrowing saves you all that clutter in your house that you don't want. You can also donate unwanted items to Benthyg Penarth too.

Sounds good?

How do I take part?

Sign up by clicking hereYou'll then receive an email with more info. Borrowing can begin from Saturday 15th January. You can choose collection from Rowley's or delivery by cargo bike. We'll let you know the details, help you register and get you started as a borrower. Email Sally at if you have any questions.

There is no cost to take part, except that of your time and willingness to share your experience in a blog or video and other social media post.

You must live in the CF64 postcode area and be over 18. We are keen to have families taking part too, but there must be at least one 18+ person registered.  You'll need to show photo ID for your first borrow. We'll let you know more about this once you sign up.

Borrowing items - Benthyg Penarth Borrower's Agreement & Items use policy terms apply. See here

Borrowing over the three week period must be reasonable, say around one or two items a week.

Sharing & Consent - We will ask you to complete a couple of simple volunteer forms for our funders and to be sure we've got your consent to use your image and words, but we will have plenty of chances to chat about this, and what's right for you.
